Alma Handy-Simmons Appointed to the Community Advisory Committee of the Detroit Wayne County Health Agency

Alma Handy-Simmons, along with Hank Johnson, Executive Director of the ARC Detroit, was appointed to the twenty-five member Community Advisory Committee for the Detroit Wayne County Health Agency by its Board of Directors. 
This adds to the growing list of roles that Ms. Handy-Simmons has held in making our community a better place for people to live. As a member of the DWCHA Committee she will have an important role in the development of the Authority and serve as a conduit of information for both it and the community.
Ms. Handy- Simmons, the current Chairperson for Services To Enhance Potential, was also awarded with the YWCA Women of Achievement Award for Volunteer Service at their 13th Annual Awards Luncheon, October 29, 2004 at the Fairlane Club in Dearborn.
Ms. Handy- Simmons works for the Wayne State University Developmental Disabilities Institute and started her career in the Detroit Public Schools, earning her Master’s degree in learning disabilities. She is very active with the ARC Detroit, United Way Community Services, black United Fund, Wayne Center, and of course, STEP.
