preferences, and resources. We will help you develop an employment
plan in which you will assume as much responsibility as possible.
Some
of the things we will help you with include developing an employment
plan, preparing your resume, job lead development, i.e., locating
and contacting prospective employers, writing employment applications
and cover letters, go with you to the interview if asked, find transportation,
assist in obtaining a physical, TB or other tests, other as required
by the employer, identifying and negotiating accommodations including
job carving and assistive technology, referring and coordinating
with employment related services, e.g., the Michigan Department
of Labor and Economic Growth – Michigan Rehabilitation Services.
We have a 30-year history of job development for persons with developmental
disabilities in Wayne County. At the end of last year we were providing
follow along services for 94 persons employed individually and for
another 56 persons in eight community–based worksites, including
state contracts for the Department of Human Services, Department of Transportation, and Secretary of State offices.
We
are accredited by CARF, the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission,
for Employment Services Coordination and for Job Development, Job-Site
Training, and Job Supports in the Community Employment Services
category.
We maintain a variety of contracted, supervised, community-based
worksites affording opportunities for job trials, skills assessment,
and ongoing employment in a group setting.
Our number one job is to find and create jobs for you.
We
ha ve helped to place hundreds of persons into community jobs. These
persons are currently employed in retail, janitorial, food service,
recycling, restaurants, hotels, animal care, retirement communities,
child care, municipalities, assembly, non profits, and packaging.
We currently follow about 150 persons working in the community
with employers that include Farmer Jack, Greenfield Village, Hyatt
Regency, Kroger, Art Van Furniture, McDonalds, Meijer, Odyssey Electronics,
Pizza Hut, Rite-Aid Pharmacy, Southview Florist, Target, T.J, Maxx,
V.A. Hospital, Fox Run, Henry Ford Village, and many more.
We will provide you with information about the effects your earnings
will have upon entitlements, i.e., SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare,
including a referral to BPAO, the Benefits Planning, Assistance,
and Outreach program.
Our
experienced job coaches provide you with on site training and help
in developing onsite relationships with people at your worksite.
We have developed working relationships with our Michigan Works!
offices, developing resumes, participating in training, and posting
resumes on the Michigan Talent Bank.
Our longstanding working relationship with the Michigan Department
of Labor and Economic Growth – Michigan Rehabilitation Services
will help to insure that you receive the best possible services
available.
